Swordfish is known to be amazing predator with practically no enemies; but due to its large size and amount of smaller fish that it feeds on, it is more widely recognized for having higher mercury content than most other fish. At CSS, we source the smaller, younger catch and test the levels of mercury to ensure they are well below the FDA limit. This way, you can enjoy the heartiness and nutritional benefits of our swordfish without having to worry about damaging your health.
COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT SWORDFISH
“Swordfish are unhealthy and endangered.”
Swordfish is actually very healthy for your body due to its highly nutritional value. Some believe that swordfish is unhealthy for you due to the fact that it contains a higher level of mercury; however, CSS swordfish is proven to have low amounts of methyl mercury and is certified so that you know exactly how much mercury content is in the steaks you are eating.
In regards to swordfish being an endangered species, this misconception may be a result of the “Give the Swordfish a Break” campaign created in the late nineties to raise awareness on overfishing. Whether a result of that campaign or not, swordfish populations are currently healthy and thriving.
